Services

In the coming times, the Nagweyaabiin Friendship Centre aspires to play an instrumental role in delivering indispensable services to the Indigenous population of Espanola.  Urban Indigenous individuals and families can experience distinctive challenges when distanced from their native lands and communities.  Our centre aims to offer them a sanctuary—a place where they can reconnect with their heritage and gain access to vital resources.

Our prospective suite of services encompasses counselling, legal support, health and wellness initiatives, educational avenues, employment guidance, financial skills enhancement, language and cultural preservation programs, youth-centric activities, and more.  We are committed to ensuring that Indigenous voices resonate in the decision-making processes and that they have unobstructed access to pertinent services.

Furthermore, the Nagweyaabiin Friendship Centre plans to act as a bridge, fostering a deeper understanding between Indigenous communities and the broader society.  Through curated events and educational programs, we aim to forge connections within the Indigenous community, elevate awareness among non-Indigenous individuals, and pave the way for reconciliation, combating racism, and fostering cultural pride.

The significance of the Nagweyaabiin Friendship Centre is underscored by Espanola's Indigenous population, numbering over 500, in conjunction with the eight surrounding First Nations communities where over 6,000 residents call the reserves their home.  These statistics are officially sourced from Census Canada.
